The ORPP is an independent public institution established under the Political Parties Act, 2018. Its main role is to register, regulate, monitor, and investigate political parties in Malawi. The Office promotes transparency, accountability, and democratic governance by ensuring parties operate in accordance with the law.

To register a political party:

• At least 100 eligible members from each district must endorse the party.
• Prepare and submit required documents, including the party constitution, office bearer details, and party symbol.
• Complete Form PPA 1 and pay a non-refundable K1,000,000 fee.
• Submit the application in person or via courier to the ORPP.
  Once verified and approved, a Certificate of Registration will be issued.

Registered political parties must:

• Submit annual audited financial statements.
• Declare large donations (K1 million+ from individuals, K2 million+ from organizations).
• Update the ORPP on changes in leadership or office details.
• Maintain a current register of members.
• Comply with gender equality and avoid prohibited practices like handouts and multiple memberships.

Yes, but only if it secures at least 10% of the national vote in parliamentary elections. State funds must be used for lawful purposes such as parliamentary activities, election-related costs, civic education, and administrative expenses. Misuse may lead to penalties or funding suspension.

Yes. Political parties can raise funds through membership fees, donations, and fundraising. Donations of K1 million or more (individuals) or K2 million or more (organizations) must be disclosed to the ORPP within 90 days using Form PPA 4. All private funding must be kept in a separate bank account and audited by a certified accountant.

You can file a complaint by submitting Form A (for handouts) or Form B (for other violations) to the ORPP. Complaints can also be sent via email to complaints@Orpp.mw or submitted in person at the ORPP offices.
