The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has officially registered three new political parties, bringing the total number of registered political parties in Malawi to 23.
1. Patriotic Citizens Party (PCP)
2. Solidarity Alliance (SA)
3. Anyamata Atsikana Azimayi (AAA)
According to Dr. Kizito Tenthani, Registrar of Political Parties, the applications for these parties were submitted between July and November 2024, and after a comprehensive verification process, they were registered on March 20, 2025.
“These parties underwent rigorous scrutiny, including physical inspections of their offices to ensure compliance with the law,” said Dr. Tenthani.
He further emphasized that this level of accountability will now extend to all registered parties:
“This is the message I would also like to give to the other 20 political parties—I will be visiting each one of them to confirm that they have functioning offices, among other requirements.”
